A terrible accident involving a school bus and a semi-truck occurred on Monday in Rushville, Illinois. 3 children, 2 adults dead after school bus and semi-truck collide in Illinois.

The Illinois State Police reported that the crash happened at 11:30 am on U.S. Route 24. For reasons still under investigation, the school bus crossed the center line and collided head-on with the westbound semi-truck. Both vehicles caught fire after the impact.

The bus was carrying only three children at the time. Sadly, all three children, along with both drivers, were confirmed dead at the scene. The Schuyler County Coroner confirmed that the children were all preschool-aged.

Schuyler-Industry Schools released a statement on Facebook expressing their deep sadness and offering condolences to the families and community.

"We are heartbroken to announce that our school community lost both staff members and students in a traffic accident involving one of our school buses this morning," the statement read. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and our entire community during this difficult time."

Out of respect for those involved, the school district will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.
